Virgin’s adults-only cruise ship is one of five big ships launching this year

Despite occasional setbacks from things like political disruptions and disease outbreaks (e.g., the State Department this week advised Americans not to book Asian cruises), the cruise industry continues to sail ahead on a long-term growth track thanks to increasing demand from vacationers for bigger and better ships with more things to do and more places to eat and drink.

While itineraries aren’t yet completely irrelevant, today’s mega-cruise ships are increasingly destinations unto themselves. It’s not uncommon for passengers to forego shore visits and just stay on the ship while it is in port. Here’s a roundup of five big new ships that will start sailing in 2020, and the kinds of things that make them unique.
