A stay at Larry Ellison’s $2,800 a night Hawaii hotel

Ever since Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison snapped up nearly all of the Hawaiian island of Lanai for a paltry $300 million in 2012, residents and longtime visitors have watched cautiously as his millions poured into transforming the former “Pineapple Isle.” The latest — and most dramatic metamorphosis — is Ellison’s remaking of the upcountry Anglo-Hawaiian-style Four Seasons Lodge at Koele and its pine tree-lined golf course into the ultra-luxury, all-inclusive (and clunkily named) Four Seasons Hotel Lanai at Koele, a Sensei Retreat.
